WHO IS SHELLEY?
I’m Shelley, a word nerd with a passion for storytelling and a love of exclamation marks!!
It’s that love of words that led me to launch my book coaching business dedicated to helping busy women, like you, tell your story.
Before I became an author and book coach, I ran a holistic health business where motivation, mindset, and well-being were the main focus. I feel strongly about empowering women to achieve their goals and boost their business through the written word.
As a single mum of three and a business owner myself, I appreciate how overwhelming the thought of writing a book can be. I want to help you reach your potential and hold your book in your hand.
Storytelling is a big part of my life. Not only do I run a book coaching business, but I’m also an award-winning blogger, and a best selling multi-genre author.
I’ve written sixteen books in various genres (non-fiction self-help/memoir, children’s books, and young adult/middle-grade paranormal/fantasy fiction), which are produced via my publisher, BHC Press. I signed a ten-book deal with them in 2017.
I was thrilled to win my category at the 2020/2021 Ladies First Network Awards, bagging the title of Successful Career for Home, and receiving a beautiful glass award from my office.
In 2016 I won the Most Inspirational Blogger award, and came second in the same category in 2017. In 2018 my blog was named as a Top 10 UK Personal Development Blog by FeedSpot. In the same year I rushed off to Los Angeles, to attend a glitzy award ceremony when my YA novel was a finalist in the RONE Awards for Best YA Book of the Year.
I self-published my first book, How I Changed My Life in a Year in 2014, which became a best seller in self-help and women’s biographies. An editor from Penguin Random House approached me a few years later looking to acquire the rights. Although nothing came of the acquisition meeting, it certainly boosted my morale!
HOPES & DREAMS
I’m an avid VW campervan fan and love to travel and write on the go. VDubs, travel, being by water, visiting castles, Viking and Tudor history, pizza, solo cinema trips, and Johnny Depp are among my favourite things!
THE PERSONAL STUFF
I was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire which makes me a proud Yorkshire lass and an avid LUFC fan. However, I’ve lived in the West Midlands since I was eight years old so I’ve got a slight Brummie accent! I live with my three amazing grown-up children and our gorgeous black cat called Luna.
A bit more about me…
- In my twenties I took part in Camp America and lived in a converted cowshed for three months in the middle of the Catskill Mountains, NY.
- I was an agony aunt for Woman Magazine
- I love tattoos (I’ve got two)
- I was invited inside Number 10 when I represented Lee’s Smile Charity as part of Epilepsy Research UK’s 20th Anniversary.
- I did one Christmas season as a turkey plucker – I kid you not!
- I believe you’re never too old to love LEGO!
- I’m five foot eleven, which surprises a lot of people when they meet me. I often hear ‘you’re much taller than your profile picture!’
